ABOUT THE HOTEL ST. GEORGE

information

The origins of the Hotel St. George Press, like the hotel itself, are shrouded in mystery.  Strange glyphs and symbols discovered during recent renovations in the foundations suggest links to a group or groups not unlike certain Hermetic or Masonic orders, though this cannot be proven or established to any certainty.  Through various records and travelogues dating back to the early 18th century, we can begin to piece various clues together.  The mesmerists inhabited an entire floor at one time claiming, "Divers powers converge here."  In the one known study of the hotel (On the Hotel St. George and it's Inhabitants, 1898), one William Dobson concluded that in its varied history the hotel contained many strange rooms, though many only referred to by name in the directory.

e.g.
The Coffin Room
The Nodding Room
The Automaton Conjecture Study
The Room of Holes
The Counting Room

There is a brief reference in Dobson's work to a raid by the Society of Paranormal Research, conducted under an anonymous tip, that "Many spirits (were being)" held there against their own will."

During the 1920's, the hotel itself was closed down for a period of nine months. The only reason given was a handwritten note posted at the front entrance, which some claim to have read, "Dream excavation in progress" and others, simply "Fumigation."

Recent theories about the Hotel St. George have been posited recently; no doubt you have read them.  The city seems currently in the throws of what one journalist has referred to as "Hotel fever." We, the Management, discourage and deny many of these outlandish and at times slanderous claims.

Today, though anyone can book a room, the hotel still acts as a beacon for those whose métiers fall outside the social norm.

Welcome.
